Every winter since 1994, from 26 December to 2 January, the village of Abéné in Casamance stages the Abene Festivalo, a programme of African music, dance, song and theatre. People come from all over the country, as well as from Gambia and even Europe and America, to discover African culture and ethnic groups through the arts. It's the perfect way to spend the festive season with your feet in the sand, in the whirlwind of African traditions and to the sounds of the djembes!
